Christian Moreau
burgundy, france
Jean Moreau et fils was founded in 1814. The Moreau family sold part of the estate in the 1970s, and the rest in 1985 with the stipulation they could remain grape suppliers to the new owners. It was not until 1996 that Chistian Moreau exercised an option to buy 12 hectares from the old estate to make wine under his own label, the Domaine Christian Moreau.
Since 2002, Chistian’s son Fabien Moreau has put his own stamp on the wines. Unlike the large former estate, the smaller size allowed Fabien to focus on quality and to introduce labor-intensive work like organic farming and hand-harvesting. The estate boasts some of the most enviable terroir in Chablis from vines that average over 45-years-old.
The wines are fermented and aged in a mixture of used-oak barrels and steel tanks, which adds texture and complexity while retaining a strong vein of acidity.
