1er Cru Grèves

Michel Lafarge
Burgundy, france
Domaine Michel Lafarge, a family-run winery dating back to the 19th century, is considered one of the premier producers of pinot noir in Volnay, Burgundy, thanks to the vision and efforts of Michel Lafarge.
Michel Lafarge introduced measures to improve the quality of the family winery upon assuming control in 1960 with a focus on terroir. He reduced the use of synthetic fertilizers to a bare minimum (the vineyards have been biodynamically farmed since 2000), replanted vines with clippings from his vineyards rather than clonal selections, and fermented grapes with naturally occurring yeasts.
Frederic, Michel’s son, and wife Chantal direct the family winery today. The domaine produces wine from a range of village and Premier Cru vineyards, with each bottling highlighting the parcel’s unique terroir. The domaine’s style is one of tension and structure, requiring patience but well worth the wait.
