Pinot Noir is arguably the most revered grape variety in the world with origins in Burgundy, France where the best expressions can still be found. Pinot Noir is not only a tough grape to grow, it also shows miniscule differences in terroir arguably more than any other grape variety. Stylistically, it is generally higher in acid and lower in tannin but can vary depending on the location, and winemaking technique. It is very versatile with food, and shows a range of flavor from red and black fruit, floral, spice, earth, and mineral qualities.

Weingut Keller

Rheinhessen

Klaus-Peter and Julia Keller have been running his family’s domaine since 2001 and in very short order created a cult following for his wines which, along with Egon Müller, are some of the most sought-after rieslings in Germany.

Klaus-Peter worked along with his father, but he also trained with Hubert Lignier and Armand Rousseau in Burgundy. He has brought life back to many vineyards in the Rheinhessen, showing the area’s potential under the right leadership. His wines start with great grapes in the vineyard, but he also uses some differentiating techniques in the cellar, like vinification in large old-oak fuders, allowing grapes to macerate on the skins before pressing.

Keller’s wines, especially his Grand Crus, balance power with exceptional clarity and elegance, with nuanced mouth-watering fruit, and with persistent, complex minerality.
