Miani
Friuli, italy
Enzo Pontoni grew up in Friuli before leaving for an engineering career. It was not long before he returned and dedicated himself to making wine. Without any formal training, Miani has become one of Italy’s best white wine producers.
Miani, which was Enzo’s mother’s maiden name, is made up of 16 organically farmed, high-density vineyards planted on "Ponca,”a mix of marl and limestone. The low-yielding vines are hand-picked and barrel fermented without temperature control.
Miani is a perfectionist. He is fastidious in the vineyard and only uses his best grapes. Some vintages, in fact, you may not see his full lineup of wines if they have not met his exacting standards. With only 600 cases of wine made per year, these precise, mineral-focused wines are a special treat.
