Sangiovese
100% San-Joe-VAY-say
Sangiovese is grown throughout Central Italy, but is most famous for Brunello Di Montalcino and Chianti Classico in Tuscany. While historically the quality of Sangiovese wines was variable, the best wines are influenced by terroir and low yields. At its best, it makes some of some of Italy’s best wines. It performs particularly well on limestone soils at higher altitudes yielding elegant age-worthy Tone & Backbone wines with a complex combination of red fruit, earth, and minerals.

Salicutti

Montalcino, Tuscany

Salicutti is the first organic estate in Montalcino, founded by Francesco Leanza, who recently retired and sold the estate to the Eichbauers, a family focused on continuing the legacy of uncompromising quality.

With only four acres of Brunello, the production is tiny and was traditionally blended into one cuvée before the estate decided to focus on unique bottlings going forward: Piaggone, Sorgente, and the Teatro Alto, all of which have a distinct style. The Teatro Alto is arguably the most elegant and energetic, while the Piaggone the most powerful.

The wines of Salicutti are defined by their terroir, the care taken in the vineyard, and deft winemaking that yields wines among the most elegant in Montalcino.
