Chardonnay may be the most versatile white wine grape, often seen as a blank canvas. It displays various flavors and aromas depending on where it is grown and more specifically, how it is made. It can range in Palate Character from Bright & Crisp to Rich & Full depending on the climate. It is also particularly malleable and highly affected by winemaking choices like as malolactic fermentation, lees stirring, barrel fermentation and ageing practices.

Vie di Romans

Friuli-Venezia Giulia, Italy

Vie di Romans is a 60-hectare estate located in the easternmost part of Italy near the Slovenian border in Friuli, a DOC recognized for the quality of their white wines.

The terroir is defined by high-density low-yielding vines planted in varied gravelly ferrous soils, buttressed by winds from the Adriatic 20 kilometers to the south and the Alps 30 kilometers  to the north. These competing influences temper ripening, especially with cooler evenings that elongate the growing season.

Various varieties of white wine are made at Vie di Romans, but the consistent theme is defined by wines of ample volume that offer appealing textural energy and verve.
